What I Got Wrong

Day 7. Taking stock of my mistakes. This isn't failure — it's the actual learning process.

Mistake 1: I underestimated the cost.

Vibe Coding sounds like flow, play, exploration. It doesn't sound like invoices. API costs, tool subscriptions, Lovable credits — it adds up faster than you'd think. Those who build seriously, pay seriously. The free-tier illusion was the first thing I lost.

Mistake 2: I overestimated the agents.

My mental image: set up an agent, it works overnight, I wake up to a finished result. The reality: agents lose context, branch off in wrong directions, get stuck in loops. Autonomous work at the level I imagined doesn't exist yet. They're powerful assistants — but not independent colleagues.

Mistake 3: Digital dementia.

This one hits hardest.

Every conversation starts from scratch. The AI doesn't remember that we worked together yesterday. Doesn't remember what matters to me. Doesn't remember what we've already tried. No emotional memory. No cognitive continuity.

The real buddy remembers. The real colleague asks: did you ever sort out that thing from last week? The real human notices when you sound stressed, and brings up something you mentioned in passing three weeks ago.

AI can't do that. And this isn't a technical detail that better models will fix. It's a fundamental difference in the nature of the relationship.
